Public transportation
Public Transport Fare Card Information
Once you arrive at Incheon Airport, we advise you to purchase a public transport fare card. They can be found at any convenient store and are typically referred to as “T-money” (use this name to ask for it). The price of the transport fare card is around 2,500KRW/ 2.50USD. We recommend you to charge the card with about 50,000KRW/ 50USD (about 30,000KRW/ 30USD for a round trip from and to the airport by Airport Limousine Bus and 20,000 KRW/ 20USD to get around Seoul) to use for the entirety of your stay. The “T-money” card can then be used for most types of public transportation including the airport limousine bus, local buses, the subway, and the taxi.
For those who do not wish to purchase a public transport fare card, there are alternative methods to using public transport. First, airport limousine bus tickets are sold at ticket booths and can be purchased by either cash or card. Aside from “T-money”, local bus fees can only be paid in cash and small change is required for the fee which is around 1,200KRW/1.20USD. For taking the subway, a one-time-use metro card can be purchased from a metro card vending machine at any subway station. Note that there is a 500 KRW deposit for a single journey ticket which can be refunded at a deposit return machine at your destination station. Lastly, cabs can be paid in either cash or card.
Taking a taxi
Minimum fare for a taxi in Korea is 3,000KRW/3USD. You must pay the fare according to the taxi meter. In Seoul, you can get to most of the places at a rate less than 30,000KRW/30USD. Please be aware of this so that you do not get overcharged.
